McDonald’s will launch a spinoff brand inspired by the 80s Mascot CosMC

Not so long ago, the world was going crazy for Grimace and his birthday shakes. Although the party may be over because of this purple fast food mascot, the fun at McDonald’s hasn’t stopped. It looks like their mascots are back in the best way possible, and McD’s are capitalizing on the popularity.

In the late 1980s, McDonald’s introduced a strange mascot that was completely obsessed with fast food — and rightly so. Now, CosMC is rebranding a separate restaurant that’s sure to be out of this world.

What is Cosmic?

The better question is from is cosmic? Like our friend Grimace and his friends, he is a former McDonald’s mascot. CosMC debuted in 1987 and appeared in numerous television commercials in the late 1980s and early 1990s. With bright orange skin and six arms, CosMC is an alien who can’t get enough of McDonald’s burgers. Can you blame him? He’s decked out in a sparkly spacesuit and made a brief appearance in a McDonald’s game for Nintendo. While he may not be the most well-known mascot, he’s cute to boot.

Explaining the concept, McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempzynski said, “CosMc’s is a small format concept with all of the McDonald’s DNA, but with its own unique personality.” We can’t wait to see what’s in the CosMC character!

For more blasts from the past, here are the McDonald’s secrets most people don’t know..

Where will CosMC open?

McDonald’s says it will test the locations in a “limited geographic area,” though we’re not yet sure where those locations will be located. I can only hope they come to visit me in Chicago. Fortunately, the grand openings aren’t too far away. We hope to see some new CosMC restaurants open in early 2024.

Will there finally be an outer space themed restaurant near me? The inner child in me sure hopes so!
