The controversy first surfaced when a TikTok video was posted showing his reaction to seeing the menu at a McDonald’s rest stop along Interstate 95 in Darien.
Then again recently, a user posted on Twitter about the menu prices and commented on how absurdly high they were.

As you can see, many of the combo meals available at McDonald’s in Darien are astronomically high compared to other McDonald’s locations around the country. According to this latest post, a Big Mac combo meal can set you back $17.59, and if you order through a delivery service like Uber Eats, the combo meal will cost you $20.89.
This cost is much more expensive than the average Big Mac Combo, not to mention the Big Mac in general, which costs $8.29 for the sandwich alone at this location. according to nationThe average cost of a Big Mac in the US is $5.15. The most expensive average price is in Switzerland, where a Big Mac averages $7.26.

Why is this Big Mac so expensive?

So are other restaurants staying away from the same kind of price inflation? Looking at the prices at other chains available in Darien, it seems that not everyone is taking advantage of the location compared to McDonald’s. Dunkin’ in Darien offers about the same prices as the Milford place to serve; According to DoorDash, bacon and cheese on a bagel costs $9.23 at both locations.
In conclusion, what does this mean for Big Mac fans on the road? If you’re looking to save money and don’t want to deal with the unreasonable prices you see in the comfort zone, it might be best to actually get off the highway and find a location in a nearby town. Fares are likely to be much cheaper, and without all the other travelers going through, the lines could be shorter.
